The first exam on saturday was information management. The exam was external and the examiner was Mr. Rainer Keil. I would like to give a short overview on the topics:
– Explain the levels of the reference model of information management by Krcmar
– Explain the information system concept as part of the St. Galler model
– State the possible technologies used in the access network for telecommunication, explain one in detail
– State three GSM hand-over techniques and describe one in detail
– some calculations for a queue system (model)
– Describe the Next Generation Network
The exam included 9 questions, but I’m not able to recall all in detail.
I was surprised that this exam doesn’t felt that difficult and I think it should be passed.
The date for the next exams is getting closer. Last week the WBH has sent the timetables for the exam date. Fortunately, both exams I’m going to write are in the same lecture theater. So I don’t have to change the room between the exams. The first exam will be IMI (Information Management) and then follows VII (Distributed Information Processing).
The second module sounds a little bit odd in my translation. In German it is “Verteilte Informationsverarbeitung”, which is also a little bit unfamiliar. In general, it’s again mostly about networking, protocols, connections and the OSI model.
My preparations are doing fine, I think. I started to do some Sketch Notes for IMI to write my own comprehension, but it’s too much to write and sketch, so I stopped this some weeks ago. Instead I will continue with the “classical” learning by reading, repeating, understanding, and answering some questions. This should be okay for IMI. For VII I read a lot of Wikipedia articles about networks protocols and some chapters of Tanenbaum’s “Computer Networks” book, which I finally ordered recently.I expect that I will need this book for my Bachelor thesis as reference.
Unfortunately it has become a little bit quiet here. That’s because I’m currently in the preparation for the next two exams. Both have a lot of stuff that needs to be learned. However, I’m also a little bit lucky, because both modules share the topic “networking”.
Mostly the exam for “Information Management” is worrying me. Here are so many different topics mixed together, so it’s quite hard to learn for this exam. At first it’s about information management and information systems in general from a economics point of view. Then it starts with some basics about telephone networks and computer network. At next I will read more about mobile communication and mobile networks. The last topic will be Telecommuting. So I hope that I have already learned the biggest part for this special exam.
